  • Huna and Hawaiian Shamanism from the path of Serge Kahili King

  • and Hawaiian Dance and Chant (Hula and Oli) from Kawaikapuokalani Hewett.

Huna is the name used for the esoteric knowledge of Hawaii. It is the practical philosophy of the Hawaiian Shaman Healers and it is finding receptive ears in many countries today. It embodies concepts that take us beyond our habits of limited thinking like energy follows our thoughts so it might be wise to focus on what we want to experience more of.

Hawaiians, in ancient times, took very special care of their leaders so that the leaders  would be empowered to make the best decisions for the people and the environment. Part of that special care included being massaged by a master practitioner (kahuna) in a place of high energy (heiau) until all their accumulated tension was gone.  How this looked and how long this would take was determined by the  recipient’s physical and mental state and therefore was unpredictable. There is no accident that today we find this kind of sacred massage is being taught around the world.  Our world needs it, we need it! We are all leaders of very intricate and stress filled lives and we all deserve to remember  inner peace and the wisdom that flows from such a place of peace. Because of its origins, this kind of massage is often referred to as temple lomilomi or as we call it, Lomi Lomi Nui, the greatest massage!

Hula in the Hawaiian language alludes to a kind of  movement that raises the inner fire. When the body’s inner fire or energy was high enough or free flowing enough, the body would heal itself. Hula is Hawaiian dance, but it is much more. The body postures, body movements and breath are all designed to increase health and so are the stories expressed in the expression of the face, eyes and hands. Every dance is a story and can be viewed from varied levels to impart inspirational lessons, like how to overcome fears and jealousy, anger and impatience.
